a conference for Christian students dedicated to scholarship in all disciplines. We seek to fully integrate the participants into a community of Christian scholars who represent different crafts and different cultures united in Christ. We welcome and encourage scholarship based on all three spokes of the conference – Christ, Culture, and Craft. It is in Confluence that all the streams merge into one.
a network of Christian students, educators, and practitioners dedicated to supporting other believers in their chosen crafts and providing fellowship and mentorship within and across career and cultural boundaries. We seek to develop connections that allow Christians to find faithful, accomplished colleagues in every career, in every culture, in every part of the globe.
Confluence, then, is a conference, a network, an aspiration to bring Christian students, educators, and professionals, into a relational community that will encourage excellence in craft, redemptive influence in culture, and a greater understanding of Christ and our relationship with Him and in Him. C.S. Lewis sought this community of Christian scholars across all disciplines when he wrote:
What we want is not more little books about Christianity, but more little books by Christians on other subjects - with their Christianity latent . . . It is not the books written in direct defense of materialistic assumptions that make modern man a materialist; it is the materialistic assumptions in all the other books. In the same way, it is not the books on Christianity that will really trouble him. But he would be troubled if, whenever he wanted a cheap popular introduction to science, the best work on the market was always by a Christian. God in the Dock
